Set into the rolling hills of the South Okanagan, Checkmate Winery is a striking architectural landmark by Olson Kundig.
Just inside the entrance is a curving tasting bar, clad in patina bronze paneling, with a custom wooden screen - inspired by the abstracted chessboard motif - set a dramatic threshold into the tasting rooms.
The dramatic vibe continues into the luxurious tasting lounge, with custom built black-stained solid oak furniture that creates a striking contrast against the surrounding light-filled architecture.
A VIP tasting room and show cellar, tucked below, we built a tasting table that follows the unique geometry of the room and is wrapped in yacht-grade leather. A bespoke credenza, designed to house wine glass storage and wine fridges, completes the space.
