Design + Craft Process
Design + Craft is our approach to delivering architectural millwork for design-led projects.
When creating an exceptional interior, every detail matters. Those details need to be considered and resolved early - before decisions become difficult or costly to change. This requires significant planning and coordination between many disciplines. Millwork is one of the most extensive interior scopes integrating with architecture, lighting, mechanical, electrical, appliances and finishes.
Our Design + Craft process follows a series of progressive phases, allowing millwork to develop alongside the interior design rather than after it.
00 Review Project + Conceptual Estimate
We begin by understanding the project, design intent, scope and delivery requirements. We are often engaged during design development, before the millwork package is fully resolved.
At this stage, we review the available information, identify key opportunities and risks, and prepare a conceptual estimate to establish an early cost framework. This gives the project team useful cost and constructability feedback while changes are still relatively easy to make.
01 Integrated Design + Value Engineering
Once engaged, we work alongside the project team to develop the design while considering materials, functionality, constructability, cost, lead times and fabrication from the outset.
For specialty spaces such as kitchens, wine cellars, and saunas, our involvement can extend into functional and technical design. We bring specialized knowledge of planning, equipment, building systems and material requirements to help develop the complete space.
Our evolving in-house library of materials, finishes, details and technical knowledge provides a resource for designers and clients to explore and refine ideas together.
02 Technical Design + Shop Drawings
Once the design intent is established, we translate it into a technical design package – detailing every aspect of the joinery, functionality, and integration with systems such as HVAC, electrical, lighting and appliances. Our team prepares accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for fabrication and installation, and physical mockups that eliminate ambiguity and ensure all stakeholders share a clear understanding of the end product.
03 Craft + Production
Our craftspeople combine traditional woodworking knowledge with advanced manufacturing technology to turn the developed design into the finished work.
Every piece is carefully worked on throughout production, with quality reviewed at each stage. Where appropriate, assemblies are pre-fitted and tested before leaving our workshop.
Completed work is carefully protected, packaged and prepared for delivery to site.
04 Delivery + Installation
The same attention continues through delivery and installation. We plan packaging, logistics, site sequencing and installation around the requirements of each project.
Every millwork piece comes with a detailed, step-by-step installation manual that allows the knowledge transfer from the shop to the site anywhere in the world.
